President’s Volunteer Service Award
Background
The President’s
Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) is a prestigious national honor offered in
recognition of volunteer commitment, encouraging citizens to live a life of
service through presidential gratitude and national recognition. Established in
2003, the award recognizes, celebrates, and holds up as role models Americans
making a positive impact as engaged and deeply committed volunteers committed
to volunteer service over the course of 12 months.
We are pleased
to announce that Chinese American Parents Association
– Walnut Valley Unified School District (CAPA-WVUSD) is now recognized
as an Official Certifying Organization (CO) for the President’s Volunteer
Service Awards Program. As a Certifying Organization, we can nominate potential
recipients, identify eligible recipients, verify their service hours, and
distribute the AWARD to those who meet or exceed the Award criteria.

Volunteer Service Award is issued by the President’s Council on Service and

Eligibility
Hours are
measured over a 12-month period and awards are designated based on cumulative
hours. The awards are offered in multiple levels and are designed to recognize
each milestone of your service achievement. Levels include bronze, silver,
gold.

Along with the ultimate honor of presidential recognition, recipients may receive a personalized certificate and a congratulatory letter from the president of the United States. All costs are paid by CAPA WHS | |||

How to Apply
1. Visit CAPA website http://www.capa-whs.org. Under President Volunteer Services Award. Click on VTMS (Volunteer Time Management System) Registration and follow instructions set up password to begin.
2. Update your volunteer hours on VTMS for periodic review and approval by adult group leader.
3. When you served the required number of hours and ready to apply, submit a complete Application Packages to request Presidential Volunteer Service Award via Google application form . We will verify your hours and notify you of award details.
Application Guidelines
1. CAPA will certify hours and order awards once a year.
2. Complete eligible service hours within a 12-month period before 8/31/2024 (any consecutive 12-month period is allowed e.g. 4/01/2023 – 3/31/2024 or 8/01/2023-7/31/2024)
3. Volunteer hours cut-off date is August 31st annually.
4. PVSA Google application form must be received by CAPA by September 15th annually.
5. Volunteer hours claimed once to apply for PVSA cannot be used again.
6. Dishonest applications will be disqualified.
7. PVSA award ceremony will be held once a year of the same year after submission of application.
8. PVSA award ceremony details will be announced on CAPA WeChat and website.
9. CAPA allows 60% of volunteer hours from activities hosted by CAPA and 40% from other non-profit organization (upon approval)
10. Volunteer hours from other non-profit organization must be in written form with the followings:
a. signature from person in charge of the event/activities
b. contact email and phone number of the person who sign the letter
c. description of the nature of your volunteer work
d. total volunteer hours
11. Email the letter to your club adult leader after you submit your application.
12. Students are responsible for keeping track of their own hour log and obtaining supervisor signatures upon completion of each service activity throughout the year.
Volunteers can sign up and register for the PVSA program with CAPA. Once registered you will need to track your hours and service for the organizations with which you volunteer. It is fun to watch your hours grow towards each milestone award. CAPA will approve your hours and award you with a PVSA.
With the highest honor of recognition comes the responsibility of upholding the integrity of the Office of the President of the United States, the PVSA and all your fellow PVSA recipients. As an individual volunteer, you are required to meet the following criteria to receive an award:
Criteria
· Recipient(s)
must be a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States (i.e., green card holder)
· Recipient(s) from other school district are welcome to apply for PVSA with CAPA WHS
· Recipient(s) or his/her family’s members must be a member of CAPA WHS
· Awards are issued for service hours served within a 12-month time.
· Awards are issued for volunteer service only.
· Awards are issued by approved Certifying Organizations CAPA WHS.
· Service must be with an organization that is legally established in the U.S., the commonwealth of Puerto Rico or one of the territories.
Eligible Service:
· Unpaid acts of volunteer service benefitting others
· Service through National service programs that provide a stipend (e.g.,
Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) may count towards the Lifetime Achievement Award*, but not for the annual Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards)
· Travel stipends, transit/parking passes, membership passes, expense reimbursements, and other nominal volunteer support do not impact service eligibility.
Eligible Service does not include:
· Donating funds
· Political lobbying
· Religious instruction
· Conducting worship service
· Proselytizing
· Volunteer service performed as part of court-ordered community service.
· Serving only family members
1. What if I am a volunteer but I am not yet a United States citizen?
Per federal program rules, only U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents (i.e., green card holders) may be awarded the PVSA.
2. What if I had a birthday which increased my volunteer hourly category?
Age category is determined by the age a volunteer is for at least 7 months out of a designated 12- month award period.
3. Which 12 months I should use?
Most students chose a calendar year; however, you may select your own 12-month fiscal year such as school year if most hours encompass the year you apply for.
